About Us

Our Story

The SUMI Group comprises three anonymous writers whose paths converged in Ogun State, Nigeria. Their shared upbringing in a land rich with folklore and vibrant traditions ignited a collective passion for storytelling. From early explorations in narrative poetry and local theatre to honing their craft for the global stage, they have always been driven by the desire to tell stories that matter. Their unique approach draws from real-life experiences and universal human truths, creating narratives that resonate deeply across cultures. They believe in the transformative power of storytelling to explore complex emotions, societal issues, and the timeless struggle between love, betrayal, and triumph.

Our Journey So Far

Since our inception, The SUMI Group has been committed to pushing the boundaries of storytelling — evolving from a collective of writers into a full-scale film and theatre production house, with a growing slate of stage and screen projects in development.

In June 2025, we premiered our breakout stage production, Dear Father — a powerful and emotionally charged story that resonated deeply with audiences. Headlined by Nollywood legend Richard Mofe-Damijo alongside a cast of celebrated performers, the production marked a defining moment in our journey. With over 5,000 attendees across its run and coverage from leading UK media outlets, Dear Father firmly established The SUMI Group as a rising force in contemporary theatre.

We continued that momentum with Throne of Ashes, which attracted over 1,000 attendees, further strengthening our presence and expanding our audience across live performance. Beyond our own productions, we have also contributed to the wider creative ecosystem through our co-production of No Wahala Therapy, where we led trailer development and post-production editing as Co-Executive Producers.

We now build on this foundation with Hero, a psychological stage play exploring schizophrenia and fatherhood — giving a voice to fathers who, due to mental illness, are unheard, misunderstood, and often silenced. As the production tours across the UK, it continues our mission to create work that challenges perception, sparks conversation, and invites reflection, bringing complex human experiences to the forefront and sharing powerful, necessary stories with audiences across the world.

Each project is a testament to our dedication to crafting compelling narratives that not only entertain but also provoke thought and inspire reflection. We are proud to bring diverse voices and real-life stories to the forefront, sharing powerful perspectives with the world.
